Since 2001 John Bogenschutz has been writing marching band music for schools across the world. Many of the bands have either been state champions or state finalists. In addition, many of the bands have also competed in BOA and have made many Regional Finals in various competitions.
John owes much of his success to the time he was able to spend marching and teaching prior to arranging. He marched with the Bluecoats Drum and Bugle Corps from Canton, OH in 1995 & 1996 and then moved on to the Madison Scouts in 1997 & 1998, where he played soprano bugle (trumpet equivalent). After aging out, John went on to teach brass at Southwind Drum Corps from Lexington, KY from 1999-2003 and the Blue Knights from Denver, CO in 2006 & 2007, where he was responsible for teaching the mellophone line.
In 2000, John graduated from Northern Kentucky University with a degree in Music Education. Starting that January of 2001 he humbly accepted the job of Assistant band Director at the Adair County School System in Columbia, KY. During his time there he learned a tremendous amount about band from director Tim Allen who had built that program into perennial marching band contenders year in and year out. After 2 great years of teaching at Adair County, John decided to arrange marching band music full time, as that is his true passion.
After several moves across the country, John has finally settled in Orlando, FL where he now lives with his beautiful wife, two awesome sons, and one cranky cat. In addition to writing music, John also likes to draw a music related comic called Tone Deaf.
